Gruene Tea Haus

Image
If you have never been to a tea room before, you should correct that immediately.  I recently tried Gruene Tea Haus. It was my first time ever at an asian tea room, and it was magical.  I was a little intimidated at first. This isn't like a coffee shop where you just walk up to the counter and order a latte, but the owners are incredibly kind and helpful. The atmosphere is peaceful and lovely. They encourage remote workers to come and stay for as long as you like. You can find a cozy corner to sit as work, or you can strike up a conversation with a stranger.  Tea: No coffee of course 😊, but they have many wonderful teas which are a great alternative when you're trying to cut down on your latte addiction. When you go in, you choose your tea from a very wide selection and then you choose your cup. For my first visit, I wanted to try something I've never had before so I tried one of their Pu'er teas. This is a fermented tea. I didn't know what to expect, but the flavo...

Betty Lou FM-1102

Image
Update 6-3-25: This Betty Lou Location is closing . I'm really quite sad about it, as this was a great spot to sit and get some work done with a great drink. I should have supported them more when I had the chance :(. They still have their coffee trailer on Landa St.  I need to go back and take more pictures, but I wanted to quickly talk about the new location of Betty Lou Coffee at 5441 FM 1102. This location, out on the edge of town, has a relaxing atmosphere, cheerful employees, and an excellent selection of drinks. If you want to feel like you're getting out of town, but don't want to go too far, this is the place.  Coffee: They have several specialty lattes, which I love. Last time I got the Nutty Betty (pistachio latte). It was great. The coffee they use is excellent, and they make their own syrups. Also, the employees are good at making suggestions if you're feeling indecisive. They have lemonades and tea and even have a "fit Betty" option where they ...

Kinnor Coffee

Image
The mysterious Kinnor Coffee just opened up a stand alone shop in New Braunfels and it is beautiful. For those that don't know, Kinnor has a location at 5 Stones Brewery. They were only open on weekends and were a little hard to find. I tried to find it several times and failed before finally discovering it (it's a great place to work outside when the weather is nice). But now, we can enjoy this excellent coffee in this awesome coffee shop during the week, AND it's in a great location, Castell Ave just down the street from Krause's (going away from downtown).  Coffee: They have some of the best coffee in New Braunfels. If you like coffee, they have something you'll love here. For an iced latte lover like me, the have an excellent list of specialty lattes. I got the butterscotch iced latte and it was great. It came in a "for here" glass which was so charming. The downside is that the coffee is a bit expensive for the amount you get. It's fairly compar...

Tipsy Cow Walnut

Image
Did you know the famous Tipsy Cow ice cream shop has a 2nd location on Walnut? They're open early (7am) and they serve coffee! It's in a new store at a great location on the east side where a few good coffee shops are sorely needed IMO. When I went, on a Monday morning, the shop was empty which is really a tragedy. I'm really hoping they do well.  Coffee: They are a bit limited on the classic coffee items. They do an Americano and that's about it for the non-sweet options. However, they have all the stuff I like, Mocha, Carmel Macchiato, and several specialty lattes with a rock and roll theme. I got the Blondie and it was honestly delicious. I'm really looking forward to trying more of their specialty drinks.  Food: No food items, but they have all the ice cream you could ever want.  Privacy: They have a corner spot that's perfect for one person to do some work. It's very private. If you need to work on something where people won't be able to look at you...

Brew K (Cibolo)

Image
In my eternal search to find places to work, it's rare that I find a coffee shop that has a truly unique menu. I stumbled across Brew K in Cibolo and discovered some of the craziest drinks I've ever encountered. The shop is a Korean based cafe offering many classic drinks as well as interesting drinks I've never heard of such as the Dalgona Latte, Hazelnut Oat Sakerato, and the Jolly Pong latte I got today.  There are so many interesting things to try. If you want to try something out of the ordinary, it's definitely worth the drive.  Coffee: They have all the classic options as well as many unique lattes as I mentioned. If you like your coffee sweet like me, there are so, so many good things here.  Food: They have several food items including pastries, cookies, cake, a grilled ham & cheese, and Korean options such as a Triangle Gimbap, Tteokbokki, and Bulgogi.  Privacy: It has normal coffee shop privacy, but while I was there, very few people came in. I sa...

The Chapter & Co.

Image
In my never-ending search for new places to work, I stumbled upon this new hidden gem in Downtown NB. It's called the Chapter & Co. On their F acebook page , it looks like it's more of a clothing boutique and bookstore, and it is those things, but it's also a super comfy and cozy coffee shop with some very nice places to sit and do some work while enjoying a cup of coffee.  The shop is right next to the Brauntex Theater in a building that's been renovated but has kept all of its old charm. They have both an upstairs and downstairs with lots of places to sit. I found a nice little table upstairs with a view of the street.  You get a nice bonus if you're into fantasy/romance books as they have shelves full of books you can buy. There's also a full shower. If that sounds weird, well, it is weird. Stop by and see if you can find it.  I'm definitely going to add this to my regular visit routine.  Coffee: This is my first time here, so I haven't been able...

2 Tarts

Image
2 Tarts Bakery is a place I often forget about as a place for remote working. I think that's because I think of it more as a bakery to stop by and grab some cupcakes rather than a shop to hang out in for a few hours working on my computer and sipping on a coffee. However, 2 Tarts is set up for remote workers. It should be in your regular rotation if you're a NB remote worker. It's a busy downtown shop with friendly employees and the best baked goods in town.  Coffee: They have all of the regular options you would get at a coffee shop. There's an excellent cold brew as well as occasional specialty lattes. I ordered a honey pecan iced latte. It was not too sweet (for those of you that aren't into the super sweet lattes) and the coffee was very good. The coffee tasted a little different from the other coffee shops that I normally frequent which was a welcome change. They only have 1 size for their coffee (looks like 12 oz) so be aware of that if you like your coffee to...

Mocas & Javas (San Marcos near Texas State University)

Image
Mocas & Javas is a small chain coffee shop with a few locations in San Marcos, one in Frisco for some reason, and a location in New Braunfels that I haven't checked out yet. The location I visited was across from Texas State University.  The shop has the hip vibe you would expect from a coffee shop near a college campus. It's got distressed furniture, doors hanging from the ceiling, and groups of college students chatting about their lives. Overall it felt relaxed and welcoming.  Coffee: If you've read my blog before, y'all know I like my coffee "Sweet as the hopes on which starv'd lovers feed" (Sir William Davenant). I ordered a dirty blonde latte. It was good, but not very sweet. That may be because they offered me a free extra shot of espresso (how can I say no to free?) It wasn't bad or anything, I think I'll get it without the extra shot next time though. They do have a lot of specialty drink options. They can do all of your favorites as ...

Laika Cheesecake and Espresso

Image
Liaka Cheesecake and Espresso is a newer edition to New Braunfels. It's a small, San Antonio based chain. Essentially, it's a coffee shop that sells cheesecake instead of pastries, but when I say they sell cheesecake, I mean they sell a HUGE variety of awesome cheesecake. The shop is set up well for remote workers with comfortable seating, good wifi, and outlets everywhere. It was a little chilly in the shop when I was there. There is a thermostat in the corner I saw an employee work. It's in a somewhat hiden corner so if you're feeling confident, you probably can change the temp. to whatever you want. The employees were super friendly and fun. Overall I found this to be a great spot to work and I will definitely be working it into my regular rotation.  Coffee: I got to try to lattes (they accidentally made the wrong one so they gave me both). I had a vanilla iced latte and a tres leches latte. Both came with blue whipped cream on top. The vanilla one was less sweet th...

(Closed :( )Kora Kora Veramendi

Image
I just drove by this week and this location is closed. I'm pretty dang sad about it honestly. I hope another coffee shop goes in there.  Kora Kora's second location in the new Veramendi neighborhood is a brand new store with classic, hip coffee shop vibes. It has good seating both indoor and outdoor. The staff is friendly and patient. There are some good food options, and the coffee is delicious. I suspect that as Vermendi grows, this location will become very busy, but for right now, it's never too crowded (especially in the afternoon). It's an excellent place to pull out the laptop and dig in for a few hours of work.  Update: Sep. 6, 2024 There is a new breakfast place 2 doors down from Kora Kora. It doesn't look like a great place for remote work, I may review it later, but it has food if you're hungry. I didn't see any specialty drinks so I got a pistachio latte today. It was good, but I love it when they do a creative drink here. Hopefully I'll see ...

Kora Kora Coffee

Image
Kora Kora is a must try coffee shop in New Braunfels. The Shop itself is beautifully decorated and very calming. The hip coffee shop vibes are very much on point. They play lovely, soft music, and the coffee is very very good. It's a place that was obviously designed for remote workers. Overall, it's a great place to sit and get some work done.   Coffee: I had an awesome iced latte here. The menu is fairly straightforward. They have all of the classic coffee shop drinks,  but I've found that if you talk to the employees and ask for some recommendations, they can create something you'll love. The coffee is on the expensive side, but I didn't regret paying for the latte I got. It was so good.  Food: They have the normal pastries here along with breakfast tacos and avocado toast and a few other things.     Privacy: You get the normal privacy you get at a coffee shop. It's fairly easy to find your own corner to sit with a computer and not be bother...
