Mocas & Javas (San Marcos near Texas State University)

Mocas & Javas is a small chain coffee shop with a few locations in San Marcos, one in Frisco for some reason, and a location in New Braunfels that I haven't checked out yet. The location I visited was across from Texas State University.

The shop has the hip vibe you would expect from a coffee shop near a college campus. It's got distressed furniture, doors hanging from the ceiling, and groups of college students chatting about their lives. Overall it felt relaxed and welcoming.

Coffee: If you've read my blog before, y'all know I like my coffee "Sweet as the hopes on which starv'd lovers feed" (Sir William Davenant). I ordered a dirty blonde latte. It was good, but not very sweet. That may be because they offered me a free extra shot of espresso (how can I say no to free?) It wasn't bad or anything, I think I'll get it without the extra shot next time though. They do have a lot of specialty drink options. They can do all of your favorites as well of course, but if you're looking for a little creativity, this place has you covered. My latte was a little expensive in my opinion. Their large is $7 for 20oz. There are several places in New Braunfels where I can get 32oz for almost the same price. I have noticed that the coffee is smaller and the prices are higher in San Marcos. I don't know if it's the Austin influence of what, but I'd really like to see some larger lattes over here.

Food: For a coffee shop, this place has a TON of food options.  It's got a full menu of breakfast plates, sandwiches, salads, pastries, and more. The menu is more like a diner menu than a coffee shop, but this place somehow maintains its coffee shop vibe if you know what I mean. It doesn't feel like a restaurant, but it has food like one if you know what I mean.

Privacy: The layout is very open. There are very few places where you can find a private corner. That being said, there are a few little nooks you can go to if you want a more private feel.

Restroom: There are restrooms. They're clean and easy to find.

Available seating: There is a lot of seating in this shop. Most of the tables are set up for 2-4 people with a few that can accommodate a larger group.  There's also a living room setup with a few couches and chairs.

Outlets:  There are a few outlets scattered around, but not nearly enough. They definitely didn't set up the shop to accommodate people who want to plug in their phones/laptops.

WiFi: There is a wifi network available. No password required.

Noise Level: There is the normal level of coffee shop chatter along with music being played at a medium quiet level. The music is generally "oldies."
