The Mess Around

 




The Mess Around is a small cafe located on the roundabout in downtown New Braunfels. It's lightly New Orleans themed and has a pleasant atmosphere. It's open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The building is older which gives it a lot of charm. The staff is friendly. as well. 







Coffee: The coffee is high quality. They have several speciality drinks along with the classics.  

Food: They have a full breakfast and lunch menu. They have some New Orleans/Southern style items, classic fare and some south Texas influence.   

Privacy: I sat on the porch and there was no one near me.  

Restroom: Available and clean.      

Available seating: The indoor seating is limited and it's set up as a bunch of booths. There is quite a bit of outside seating.   

Outlets: I couldn't find a single outlet. 
      
WiFi: I'm sure they have wifi, but I forgot to ask so I just used my hotspot 😕

Noise Level: There was New Orleans style music playing. It wasn't too loud. There's normal street noise outside.

 In my never-ending search for new places to work, I stumbled upon this new hidden gem in Downtown NB. It's called the Chapter & Co. On their F acebook page , it looks like it's more of a clothing boutique and bookstore, and it is those things, but it's also a super comfy and cozy coffee shop with some very nice places to sit and do some work while enjoying a cup of coffee.  The shop is right next to the Brauntex Theater in a building that's been renovated but has kept all of its old charm. They have both an upstairs and downstairs with lots of places to sit. I found a nice little table upstairs with a view of the street.  You get a nice bonus if you're into fantasy/romance books as they have shelves full of books you can buy. There's also a full shower. If that sounds weird, well, it is weird. Tipsy Cow Walnut

Did you know the famous Tipsy Cow ice cream shop has a 2nd location on Walnut? They're open early (7am) and they serve coffee! It's in a new store at a great location on the east side where a few good coffee shops are sorely needed IMO. When I went, on a Monday morning, the shop was empty which is really a tragedy. I'm really hoping they do well.  Coffee: They are a bit limited on the classic coffee items. They do an Americano and that's about it for the non-sweet options. However, they have all the stuff I like, Mocha, Carmel Macchiato, and several specialty lattes with a rock and roll theme. I got the Blondie and it was honestly delicious. I'm really looking forward to trying more of their specialty drinks.  Food: No food items, but they have all the ice cream you could ever want.  Privacy: They have a corner spot that's perfect for one person to do some work. Kinnor Coffee

  The mysterious Kinnor Coffee just opened up a stand alone shop in New Braunfels and it is beautiful. For those that don't know, Kinnor has a location at 5 Stones Brewery. They were only open on weekends and were a little hard to find. I tried to find it several times and failed before finally discovering it (it's a great place to work outside when the weather is nice). But now, we can enjoy this excellent coffee in this awesome coffee shop during the week, AND it's in a great location, Castell Ave just down the street from Krause's (going away from downtown).  Coffee: They have some of the best coffee in New Braunfels. If you like coffee, they have something you'll love here. For an iced latte lover like me, the have an excellent list of specialty lattes. I got the butterscotch iced latte and it was great.
