2 Rivers Coffee

Image
2 Rivers is a coffee shop on the loop near NB High School. It's a busy shop with friendly employees and an atmosphere that's part hip coffee shop and part dance club.  This shop is generally fairly busy when I get here, but it usually thins out by about 9 or 10 am. (Update 11/7/24, it's always busy :)) The seating is limited, but I always find a seat. They play laid back dance music. It's slightly on the loud side, but I don't mind it.  If you have a group, you can actually reserve their conference table that's located in the front of the shop for meetings, study sessions, etc.   If you live in NB and like to work in coffee shops, this place should be in your regular rotation.  tip: On your first visit, make sure to tell them it's your first time. When I did that, they gave me a full loyalty card so I could get a free drink on my next visit.  Coffee: The coffee is good quality. Their latte is less sweet than I normally find. It's definitely more coff...

New Braunfels Coffee

Image
New Braunfels Coffee is located on the traffic circle in the middle of downtown. This is in the old down town area of New Braunfels. The shop is in an older building and has a nice older shop vibe. It's usually quite busy. The patrons are a mix of locals and tourists especially in the summer as NB attracts a lot of summer tourists.  Overall, it's a classic coffee shop with good coffee, a nice vibe, and good food options. The one thing they're lacking is outlets to plug into. Other than that, it's a good place to sit and do work.      Coffee: They have some interesting specialty options along with all of the classics. The price is fairly reasonable for the area. About $6 for a large latte. Their latte is less sweet than most places.    Food: They have a full hot breakfast menu   and a good selection of salads and sandwiches for lunch .  Nothing too spectacular, but it's nice to have such an extensive menu for breakfast and something ava...

Wicked VooDoo Espresso

Image
Quick update (Sept. 5, 2024) I got this awesome coffee flight at WickedVoodoo today! If I'm over in Creekside/Freiheit village, Wicked VooDoo is my go-to place. They have a wide variety of delicious drinks, friendly staff, and a nice place to sit and work on your computer. It's got a fun vibe that always picks me up when I'm having a slow morning. The seating area is set up for remote workers with several small tables and access to an outlet anywhere you sit.  Coffee: They have a bunch of delicious custom recipes. It can be a little overwhelming initially for those of us who are indecisive, but once you get the hang of it, it's great. The staff are always patient with me. They have a HUGE 32 oz large. If you need a LARGE coffee, this is the place. I recommend the snickerdoodle if you like your coffee sweet like me.  Food: They have basic pastries, kolaches, a breakfast sandwich, and breakfast tacos from NB Tortilliria, one of the best taco places in the city.  ...

Summer Moon (Buda)

Image
I was looking for a stop on my way home today and I saw a sign for Summer Moon Coffee. This location was in downtown Buda. I've never been to Buda's downtown area. It's a very nice historic downtown spot. It's not as large or busy as New Braunfels' downtown, but it has a similar vibe.  Summer moon is located in a charming old brick building. It has small outdoor and indoor seating areas. I got a mocha moon latte and it was excellent! If you like your coffee on the sweeter side, it's great. The outside seating area is on a road, but it's not too loud. It is moderately busy.  Overall, I really enjoyed the charm of this place. It's quite comfortable and a good place to work. I loved the coffee as well. I would like better access to outlets to plug in my computer and some more savory food options. I'll certainly come back when I'm in the area.  Food: They had some standard pastries.       Privacy: Normal coffee shop. You can find a spot to sit wher...

Gruene Coffee Haus

Image
When the weather is nice, there are very few places that rival Gruene Coffee Haus to sit outside and get some work done. During the day on a weekday, Gruene isn't nearly as busy as in the evening or on the weekends. It's downright peaceful in the morning. Gruene Coffee Haus has good coffee and a friendly staff. The indoor seating area is on the small side but you can usually get a seat if you want to sit inside. There is a lovely patio outside that has good shade and is quite comfortable.  Food: They have a lot of good pastries to choose from. For lunch, Adobe Verde is right next door is you want something to eat. They have good lunch specials for around $10.      Privacy: Just a few people around. You can sit at your own table and no one will bother you.   Public Restroom: Available and clean.    Available seating: Limited inside. There is good outdoor seating on the patio.   Outlets: There are more inside. If you're outside, the...

The Loft (Spring Branch)

Image
Ok everyone, this is one of my favorite coffee shops. I get up to the Bulverde/Spring Branch area regularly, and when I'm up here, more often than not, I'm going to stop at The Loft. This place is so homey and comfortable. It's a great spot to relax and got some work done in peace. The inside is like a big living room/dining room area. There are lots of places to sit including a very nice outdoor seating area. The coffee is good and the staff is friendly. There are lots of breakfast and lunch options including oatmeal, breakfast tacos, and several excellent sandwiches. There are also cheap day old pastries available. They play quiet music and it's busy but not too busy.  FYI, The Loft serves as a fundraising arm for a local christian church. The tips don't go to the employees, they are given to the church as donations.   Coffee: The coffee is good. I generally get an iced mocha. They do a real good frap as well (I'm a sweet coffee person unfortunately :( )   ...

BarleyBean (South Austin)

Image
I was in Austin for an appointment and decided to look for a place to do some work. I drove by this shop and decided to stop in. It's got a VERY Austin vibe. It's about as hipster as a place can be. That's not a bad thing though. The customer service was excellent. The person who served me at the front was very kind and offered me some great recommendations. There were several people in the shop getting work done. It's comfortable and fairly quiet. That being said, it's on the expensive side, as you would expect, but the food was great.  Coffee: My latte was good. High quality and just the right amount of sweetness.    Food: They have lots of breakfast and lunch options. I had the "classic club" panini. It may be "classic" but it definitely wasn't normal. It was so, so delicious. I got chips with it, but you can also choose from pasta salad or mac and cheese.    Privacy: I found a little nook and felt like I had reasonable privacy for a coffe...
